Charles S. Hearn 64, of Independence, Missouri, was identified by police as the pedestrian who was hit and killed in the collision.
Police in Independence, Missouri say a pedestrian was crossing 40 Highway when he or she was hit and killed on Saturday night.
The Independence Police Department reports that at 7:32 p.m., eastbound 40 Highway west of Washington Avenue was the scene of a collision.
The incident occurred on the eastbound side of the highway, and the IPD reports that a Mercedes-Benz traveling eastbound hit a pedestrian heading south. According to the report, the pedestrian was hit while walking in the right lane of the highway.
The Mercedes-Benz driver stuck around for the police investigation and gave them his full cooperation. The injured pedestrian later died at Centerpoint Medical Center.
