Jeremy Williams, a former Greenville High football coach who had been battling ALS for nearly 15 years, died early Sunday morning, according to his family.
Williams was 50 years old at the time.
In 2010, Williams was named the National High School Football Association’s coach of the year after leading Greenville to an 8-3 record and a playoff spot in his final season on the sidelines.
Williams was diagnosed with ALS in 2007, but he went on to coach his squad for another four years.
His Greenville squad went 10-0 throughout the regular season in 2009, winning the school’s first region championship in 17 years.
Williams would utilize a golf cart to move around while instructing as the condition advanced.
He struggled with a motorized wheelchair during his final season.
