Actress and playwright Danai Gurira won critical acclaim with her first play, “In the Continuum” (2006), which addressed social and political issues in her parents’ home country of Africa.
While pursuing a second career as an actor on television and in films like “The Visitor,” she wrote two additional highly appreciated books, 2009’s “Eclipsed” and 2011’s “The Convert,” all of which focused on African concerns.
Two years later, Gurira landed her most well-known acting role as the steely Michonne on “The Walking Dead.” Gurira appeared to be headed for stardom in both mediums based on the enthusiastic reception to her performance and her rising popularity in the theater community.
