Ken Schmidt Passes Away, Rolling Bones Hot Rod Shop Founding Member

With his sudden death earlier this week, a titan in the real estate industry left a sizable void among family, friends, coworkers, and rivals.

Ken Schmidt passed away on Monday in Florida. He was the CEO of the Schmidt Family of Companies, which is the parent firm of Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors.

The 78-year-old Schmidt was a member of the fourth family to work at the real estate brokerage company that Harold F. Schmidt established in 1927.

In 1968, Schmidt joined his sibling Fred and father Joseph in the family business. The trio contributed to the company’s growth into one of the Midwest’s top brokerage companies.

According to the business website, the Coldwell Banker Schmidt brand has more than 90 offices spread out across Michigan, northeast Ohio, Florida, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

In addition to Century 21 Schmidt Real Estate in Venice, Florida, Coldwell Banker Schmidt has added Elite Sotheby’s International Realty in Pepper Pike, Ohio. According to the business website, the firm employs over 2,000 agents and broker associates and in 2021 reported $5.521 billion in annual sales from almost 20,000 closed deals (buying and selling).

In addition, Ken Schmidt’s biography mentions that he served as the two-term previous president of the Traverse Area Association of Realtors, the organization that preceded Aspire North Realtors. He held the title of past TAAR Realtor of the Year and was Green Certified by the National Association of Realtors, in addition to holding a number of other professional abbreviations.

Ken Schmidt passed away as a result of complications from a pickleball-related head accident.

Mike Schmidt remarked, “He never looked better; that was the disappointing aspect. He appears to be in good condition.

I suppose God wanted him in paradise.

Ken Schmidt and Tom and Fran Menzel had just returned from a vacation to Australia and New Zealand.
