Ketanji Brown Jackson presently serves on the federal appellate court in Washington and was regarded as the front-runner for Breyer’s seat ever since Breyer announced his retirement.
Jackson was born in Washington, D.C., but grew up in the Miami region.
She was a member of the debate team at Miami Palmetto Senior High School before attending Harvard for her undergraduate and law degrees.
She will be sworn in this summer, following the retirement of Justice Stephen Breyer.
