On March 28, 1985, Steve Mandanda Mpidi, a goalkeeper for the France national team and Ligue 1 club Rennes, was born in France.
Mandanda spent most of his professional football career at Marseille, where he amassed more than 600 games across all competitions and won five straight Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year honors. He spent two seasons with the club.
Mandanda has represented France in six international matches since making his debut in 2008, including three FIFA World Cups (2010, 2018, and 2022) and four UEFA European Championships (2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020). Mandanda triumphed against the opposition in 2018.
Mandanda was born on March 28, 1985, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (then Zaire), but his family moved to Évreux, France, when he was just two years old. He trained in boxing before turning nine and joining the neighborhood group ALM Évreux.
