What happened in season 5 of The Freak?

In season five’s final episode, Allie gave up her position in the escape plan she hatched with Franky (Nicole da Silva) to allow The Freak to get out of everyone’s lives, permanently. She convinced the governor-turned-inmate to hide in one of the wooden chests being transported out of the prison as part of Boomer’s greenhouse project. Alas, unlike Franky’s, Ferguson’s crate didn’t end up in a depot from where she could escape. Hers made its way to an open grave, with Will (Robbie Magasiva) piling on the dirt. It was a terrifying end for one of the series’ most terrifying characters. Except… well, we’ve seen the trailer for season eight and it looks like we may have to question everything we thought we knew. Did she die?

When a character leaves a series, it’s always a big moment. However, when it comes to Wentworth, the ante is well and truly upped, especially with so many beloved characters exiting the show via a shocking demise.

In the season four finale, Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) and Joan ‘The Freak’ Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) confronted each other. With Bea hiding a screwdriver up her sleeve, it looked like The Freak’s number was up – until she turned the tables, wrenching it out of Bea’s hand and threatening to stab her assailant.
